The road to becoming an ADI can be a tough journey, we will be there to support you from completing your application form to join the DSA Register through to Taking your final test and beyond.

Choosing Driving Instruction as a career allows you to be your own boss and give you the opportunity to control your own working hours. Driving instruction is a challenging yet rewarding career which offers a large range of possible future paths outside of the Learner Driver market.

Being an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) involves far more than just teaching someone to drive, you will be responsible for developing a high standard of driver behaviour in young and inexperienced drivers, promoting the attitude of 'Safe Driving for Life'

As an ADI you will need to display the following;

• A high regard for all aspects of road safety
• A high standard of personal driving ability
• A high level of instructional ability
• A professional approach you your pupils
• A responsible attitude and approach to your profession

In order to qualify as an ADI you will have to undergo the DSA 3 Part Qualification process, the tests you'll need to take are as follows;

• Driving Instructor Theory and Hazard Perception (Part 1)
• Driving Ability (Part 2)
• Instructional Ability (Part 3)

Parts 2 and 3 of the process must be passed within a two year period of the date of passing Part 1. You are unlimited in the number of times you can take the Part 1 test, you are however limited to just 3 attempts at the Parts 2 & 3 test. This qualification process is not easy and the pass rates are traditionally quite low. In 2009/10 the published pass rate at Part 3 was just 34%, although this low rate can be avoided by carefully selecting your trainer and ensuring that driving instruction is the right career for you.
